Take Out Old Concrete and Define What Comes Next

ASRE breaks, saw-cuts, removes and hauls concrete for homes and commercial properties in Allentown and the Lehigh Valley. Removal includes driveways, aprons, sidewalks, steps, patios, pool decks, slab sections, curbs and parking areas. ASRE also pours replacement concrete, so your estimate can cover tear-out, base work and the new surface.

Old concrete might be cracked, uneven or simply in the way of a new layout. The removal boundary matters when part of the existing slab stays, and the ground underneath needs review before replacement work. ASRE plans saw-cut edges, breaking and hauling around the area being removed. Explain whether you want the site left for another contractor, opened for plumbing, or rebuilt with new concrete so the estimate matches the full task.

Concrete Surfaces ASRE Removes

Concrete Surfaces ASRE Removes

Your removal plan identifies the surface, boundaries and material to be hauled away.

  • Driveway concrete and aprons at the vehicle entrance
  • Sidewalks and walkways along residential or commercial properties
  • Concrete steps being removed before replacement access work
  • Patios and pool decks within the planned tear-out
  • Interior slab sections opened for new plumbing work
  • Commercial concrete pads and curbs within the project area
  • Concrete parking surfaces being removed before new work
  • Saw-cut boundaries where removed concrete meets sections staying in place

How it works

From Tear-Out to the Next Surface

  1. 01

    Define the removal limits

Point out the concrete coming out and the sections remaining, including nearby steps, walls and building entrances. A partial removal needs a clear boundary before cutting or breaking begins.

  2. 02

Review access and the next use

Discuss where the crew reaches the slab and how debris leaves the property. Tell ASRE whether the exposed area is for plumbing, a replacement pour or a different construction layout.

  3. 03

    Cut and break the concrete

Saw-cutting creates defined edges where the removal meets concrete that stays. ASRE breaks the agreed concrete sections into pieces for loading and leaves the adjacent sections in place.

  4. 04

Load, haul and examine the base

ASRE removes the broken concrete and hauls the debris off site. The exposed base then informs the next work because a replacement slab needs suitable support below its finished surface.

  5. 05

Replace or hand off the area

If you want ASRE to pour new concrete, include base preparation and replacement in the estimate. For another contractor's work, agree on the intended condition of the area after removal.

For Residential Tear-Outs and Commercial Concrete Work

For Residential Tear-Outs and Commercial Concrete Work

Concrete removal fits a homeowner replacing a driveway or pool deck, a business rebuilding a pad or curb, and a commercial buildout opening a slab for plumbing. The amount of concrete and the sections that remain determine the work needed. ASRE handles residential and commercial requests across Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, Emmaus, Macungie, Whitehall and surrounding areas. Tell us how you use the space and whether access through it is needed during construction. Replacement concrete is available. Ask for removal, base preparation and new concrete placement to be listed separately in your estimate.

Project example

Driveway Demolition and Replacement Concrete

ASRE's Mr. Smith driveway project included concrete demolition, site preparation, placement and finishing for a residential driveway in the Lehigh Valley. That project shows removal connected to a new driving surface. ASRE also removed previous patio work for its covered patio rebuild and selectively demolished slab components during the lower-level entry and retaining wall project. These examples cover different reasons for tear-out, with the next construction phase determining how much existing concrete needed to come out.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to the questions we hear most. Need something else? Give us a call.

Can you remove only part of a slab?

ASRE saw-cuts and removes defined concrete sections, including interior slab areas for plumbing work. Identify what stays and where the cut needs to meet the remaining surface. Partial removal should be reviewed on site because slab layout and adjacent construction affect the boundaries. Discuss any replacement section at the same time so the new work fits the opening.

Do you haul the broken concrete away?

Yes. Breaking, removing and hauling concrete are part of ASRE's removal service. Tell us which surface needs removal and whether other debris is also present. The estimate should distinguish concrete from unrelated material on the property and identify the agreed tear-out boundaries. Mention any additional clearing you want included so your estimate covers the cleanup you need.

Can ASRE pour the new concrete afterward?

ASRE pours residential, commercial and stamped concrete in addition to removal. Ask for the replacement dimensions, finish and base work to be included in the estimate. The exposed ground might need preparation before placement, so tear-out alone does not describe the whole replacement job. Discuss the finished surface you need before the old concrete is removed.

Why does the base matter after removal?

Concrete relies on the material beneath it for support. A weak or poorly prepared base affects the replacement even when the new finish looks good at placement. Removing the old surface exposes conditions that need review. ASRE provides excavation, grading and base preparation, which should be considered with the new concrete instead of assuming the existing base is ready to reuse.

Do you remove pool decks and steps?

Pool decks, patios and steps are included in ASRE's concrete removal services. These areas often meet structures or surfaces that remain, so identify the limits and access needs during the site visit. Explain the planned replacement and any connected walkway work. Your tear-out estimate should identify the concrete areas being removed and any surrounding pool or entry work included.
